About Kyeson

Kyeson Blake Utley writes here about the parts of security engineering that decide whether systems hold up in practice.

Kyeson Blake Utley.

I'm the founder of GhostKey Development, a Texas firm that builds and tests security-critical systems. I'm also Chief Technology Officer of Northwest Investigative Services (NWISI), where I lead the device forensics practice. Before that I worked in blockchain forensics, tracing stolen cryptocurrency for fraud victims, and served as CTO of Justice Solutions Group.

The essays on this site come from what I see in that work: findings from penetration tests, patterns in how systems fail, and the gap between how security is designed and how it's actually built. New pieces go up every few weeks. For a longer treatment of post-quantum migration, see my white paper, Post-Quantum Migration: A Practical Playbook for Engineering Teams (Zenodo, 2026), and the companion slide deck.
